Christmas OASIS Life.Rhythm.Spirit

By | News

Wow what a day we had at our Christmas Oasis community event on Saturday 10th in the Brighthelm Gardens … gathering around the fire with hot chocolates in hand with a flash mob choice to sing Silent Night … Thank you to everyone who came and joined in with the drumming, singing of carols, dancing, wrapping of presents & hot chocolate drinking around the fire and blessing our city! Many people were touched by the love of God in our Spirit Dream tent and it was great to see the gardens buzzing with activity!  Hope to see you again in 2017!

Our Dear Friend Libby

By | News

This week we mourn the loss of our dear friend Libby Van Rooyen, who died suddenly and unexpectedly last week. We’ve been privileged to know and love Libby. She enriched our community through her quiet thoughtfulness. Over the years we have journeyed together it has been a joy to see her blossom in care, confidence and creativity. Libby had a faith in Jesus and we are comforted in knowing that she is at total peace with Him now.
We will miss her greatly.

Easter Sunday at City Gate

By | News

On Easter Sunday we came together to celebrate new life with a God who truly loves us! The resurrection and life of Jesus Christ!

Easter Service '16_6We also learnt about the traditional Passover meal that Jesus and His disciples partook in at The Last Supper.  As a Jew, Jesus was required, under the Law of Moses, to celebrate the Passover every year, to remember the Exodus from Egypt.

Passover elementsIt was great to understand all the different elements, from toasting the four cups of wine that represented four promises made to Israel, to the meaning of the unleavened bread, bitter herbs in salt water, hard boiled egg, horseradish and fruits!

Jesus said: “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.  I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the Kingdom of God.” ~Luke 22:15-16

GOOD Friday Taize @TheDip

By | News

We had a lovely Good Friday Taize service @TheDip, followed by fresh hot cross buns and refreshments!

Taize Good Friday '16 3“Let the oppressed eat and be filled! Let those who seek his help praise the Lord! May you live forever! Let all the people of the earth acknowledge the Lord and turn to him! Let all the nations worship you!

For the Lord is king and rules over the nations. All of the thriving people of the earth will join the celebration and worship; all those who are descending into the grave will bow before him, including those who cannot preserve their lives.

Taize Good Friday '16A whole generation will serve him; they will tell the next generation about the sovereign Lord. They will come and tell about his saving deeds; they will tell a future generation what he has accomplished.”

Wait for the Lord, whose day is near. Wait for the Lord: keep watch, take heart!

Palm Sunday!

By | News

On ‘Palm Sunday’ last weekend we welcomed a procession of cyclists travelling from the Rose Gardens at Preston Park to the Brighthelm Gardens, with the waving of Palms.

It was a fun way of remembering Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey and the crowd greeting him with palm branches scattered in front.

Great job cyclists!

Over the last few months City Gate Church has been raising money for projects home and away. Families and Family Groups have been raising funds weekly, so that Fareshare and Fundelaship can benefit from the money raised.  Last Sunday we counted a fantastic £1076 in our Jam Jar Challenge! With a couple more collections due, we are excited to reveal the final amount soon. Thanks to everyone who contributed in raising funds! If you would like to find out more about Fundelaship and Fareshare, or add to our collection, please go to our Projects Page.
