Taize Communion Service

31st October 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

This Sunday 31st October we will be gathering in a smaller setting at The DIP (119D Hollingdean Terrace, Brighton BN1 7HB), holding a Taize Communion Service, to share songs, silence, readings, prayers and communion with each other. If you want to try something mediational and reflective then do come along!

Taize is a monastery in France existing since the 1940s with brothers from Catholic and Protestant traditions, and some small communities of brothers living amongst the poor in Brazil, Bangladesh, Korea, Senegal, and Kenya. Their style of worship is contemplative always with a time of silence, and the beauty of simple four part harmony chants repeated many times.

Masks are no longer required at in-person meetings, however, you are welcome to wear a mask if you prefer. Seats will be facing forwards in one direction with windows open for ventilation.  We ask that you be mindful of others and consider taking a lateral flow test before arriving.

“Praying” by Mary Oliver (From Thirst: poems, 2007)

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
